Can't beat Edith for elegant prose.
I am baffled and bewildered, yet to determine what this book is about. The title caught my attention and I figured I would find something that would be beneficial for and to children but I am still at a loss.

I am trying to figure out what kind of writing style this book is written in as it would make it easier to read and probably help with grasping the content. I’ve read Shakespeare and though a difficult style could later understand, this work however it different, I am still trying to figure out what type of prose is used.

The writing flows continuously, no chapters and it leaves me wondering who this book was intended for. I am disappointed because I love to read but walked away from the book bewildered more than anything else.
Though this isn't one of the best of Edith Whartons books, it is an enjoyable read. The main character, the only one who's thoughts and actions are told exactly as he is experiencing them, is a middle aged rather mild mannered man. This gentleman has had few emotions except towards a woman in his past that was married at the time of their affair, she decided to stay with her husband but years later started the romance over again through correspondence. While our man is on route to reunite with his lost love he is on board a ship with a group of children that are blood related or related by the marriages of their respective parent's. His deep caring for this menagerie of children, most specifically the oldest girl leads him to actions that change the course of his life .
I always like psychology and this book is great. It gives you a great read and basic concepts. Great buy to help your self with your children. A little old... but good
Literary Mistress of mood captures the reader early, finishes with a poignancy that reminds us why we love Edith Wharton. Unfortunately the middle of this story is a warren of missteps, false starts, and annoying tabloid like episodes that grow tiresome. This is a must-read only after you have read everything else she has written.
