Heidi Chiavaroli's latest time slip novel "The Hidden Side" is a powerful and incredibly emotional story that captivates her readers as she bravely addresses the topic of school shootings along with the bravery and losses faced by individuals fighting on both sides during the Revolutionary War. As a teacher, the school shootings hit close to home for me as that is something that we are constantly educating and preparing our staff and students of how to react to should such a situation occur. This was one book that I could not put down. Chiavaroli eloquently addresses all aspects of the situation and allows the reader to feel absolute horror at the shooting and the loss of lives, while also feeling compassion for the severe bullying that the shooter went through at school through the reading of his journals. She shared how God's mercy provided comfort and compassion during extremely difficult times and how ordinary people bravely dealt with extraordinary circumstances. This was an incredible story, and I definitely recommend it!!!Tags : The Hidden Side [Heidi Chiavaroli] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. New York, 2016
Natalie Abbott offers answers for hurting listeners on her popular radio program. The Hidden Side Heidi Chiavaroli 9781496423238 Books Reviews
The modern story was much more compelling to me than the historical one. Both were well-written, but I found myself being a bit annoyed at the intrusion of Mercy's story. (At the same time, I could see a need for a break from the intensity of the modern one.)
My main pet peeve with Mercy's story was her continual second-guessing and self-berating for her choice to help the Cause. I kept thinking, "Enough already, we get it, you don't like being deceitful."
The author did a wonderful job of changing styles between the modern bits and the historical ones. Overall it was a good read, though the subject matter of the modern story was tough for bedtime reading!
I really, really enjoy historical fiction, and I LOVE stories about the American Revolution. But this book caught my interest both for its history and for its story in the present. I was immediately hooked! Both stories told are tremendously heart breaking, but our God is strong enough to reach the unloveable and to heal the broken hearted. I’ve always just wanted hard justice for school shooters (and I would still hold that position), but this made me stop and realize that a lot of times, these kids are pushed until they literally reach their limit. The story made me think, and consider that there are two sides to every matter. I’m very glad I read the book and highly recommend you read it as well!
I spent the entire day reading Heidi Chiavaroli's second novel, "The Hidden Side." I was an emotional wreck reading it, but it was worth all the tears and breath-holding.
This is the best book I have ever read, and I have read a lot of books. The side-by-side time-slip story in "The Hidden Side" is so subtly juxtaposed, and the strength of both stories had me turning page after page, that I forgot to eat all day!
The portrayal of the horror of the "unspeakable act" along with the humanity and duplicity of Heidi's characters seem to be created with a muse not of this world. If one has faith, it will be strengthened. If one lacks faith, it may be incited.
I am honored to be Heidi's mother. After reading this book, I believe Heidi is as good as any author, dead or alive. I believe she is an author to be recognized. I did not say these words after her first book. Though "Freedom's Ring" captured the hearts of many, I do not believe it is as powerful as "The Hidden Side."
This is what good literature is meant to be.
This is a second novel for Heidi Chavaroli, and it does not disappoint. I had read Mrs. Chiararoli's first book, Liberty's Ring, from a free download and enjoyed it so much that I immediately pre-ordered the paperback version of The Hidden Side. I still love the old school version of reading.
The period settings of this book is present day and the past to the Revolutionary War. The duplicity the main characters live and struggle with are strong with emotion. The heartbreak these characters lived through is beyond comprehension, and yet God's grace and love was there to carry each woman through their desperate hours. This book's present day topic was difficult to read and technically there was no true HEA for either character, but a promise of a full life to come. And that is all we can hope for. I look eagerly to the next novel from Heidi Chiavaroli.
Heidi Chiavaroli did an amazing job of writing dual storylines that paralleled one another in theme (hiding one's true self). Although the settings and events were vastly different, the characters in the present and past experienced the same emotions throughout the story. I tend to choose contemporary over historical, but both stories were engaging, and I appreciate the research the author did to write about the spy ring during the Revolutionary War. The subject matter can be intense at times, but that is theunfortunate reality of the world we live in now and of the world Mercy lived in. The author treated the subject matter skillfully and without compromising her book as a "Christian" read.
This is Heidi’s second book and I am just amazed! I am sure this book will be one of my top reads for 2018. This is a time slip novel and both stories are equally engaging and heartbreaking. The message of finding peace through God, even when life is not what we would hope for or expect, is beautifully done in both stories.
As soon as I started reading, I was immediately hooked. Both stories draw you in and you just want to keep reading to find out what happens. My heart actually ached while reading these stories (especially when I realized there could be no normal HEA at the end) and brought me to tears. I am still thinking about the characters.
This book is so well written, so raw, and so real. I think it will make you put yourself in others shoes before you judge and condemn them and you will definitely have more compassion for others.
